SB Creative Lab

Co-Founder and Designer 2020-2021

SB Creative Lab is an organization devoted to providing resources in graphic design, UI/UX, and illustration to students at UC Santa Barbara.

SB Creative Lab was born from our desire to provide more resources and opportunities for aspiring designers at UC Santa Barbara. As a co-founder and designer, I created SBCL’s logo and mascot, and worked with other designers to establish a cohesive design language.

SB Creative Lab logo

SB Creative Lab’s main motif is aerial transportation, to symbolize taking off and going places. Through collaboration with the rest of the design team, I created a final logo that incorporates the paper airplane, our brand colors, and the letters "C" and "L" into a cohesive shape. This Instagram post outlines the steps in our design process.

Channel Islands fox mascot

SB Creative Lab’s mascot, Finn, is a Channel Islands fox, a species that is only found on the Channel Islands off the shore of Santa Barbara. He is the friendly face of the organization, symbolizing intelligence and resourcefulness and reinforcing the blue and orange color scheme. While designing Finn, I went through a number of different iterations to make sure that his design would work from any angle for a variety of graphics.
